Coming to Z-Dorf
2018. This project traces my personal journey to a new home, the impressions it left on me, and how I chose to capture it through illustration. It explores a kind of time capsule — a small, close-knit expat community in the West Berlin neighborhood of Zehlendorf. For a period, this area was home to many American expats who brought pieces of their culture with them. We attended the John F. Kennedy High School and created pockets of “Americanisms” throughout the neighborhood, trying to carry a sense of home into a new place.
Although the area has changed and continues to evolve, the school remains — a lasting reminder of that unique community and a time that now lives on through my work.
