For the author, lemons came to symbolize many aspects of her life. Most significantly, they represented the places she had traveled, lived, worked, and earned her academic achievements. Woven into all these milestones is the theme of relationships—marking a subtle but powerful shift in the narrative, from freedom to a sense of captivity, even within the comforting presence of the beloved lemons.

Lemons are such a consistent and meaningful motif in her story that it felt important to keep the cover solely focused on them. Their grace and beauty serve as both a visual anchor and a thematic reminder of the emotional layers within the book.

The chapters are introduces by simple black and white spot illustrations.
