MEXILOVE - Label Design

In Germany, the so-called Mexikaner is a wildly popular vodka-based shot, typically served in bars and made with tomato juice and spices. The creators of this bottled version were among the first to pioneer the commercial sale of this unique mixed shot.

When I was brought onto the project, I was handed a few core elements to work with—most notably, an illustration of a tomato pierced by an arrow, along with the usual label details required for packaging.

I organized the information into a table layout using thin contours and represented the information within these spaces with varied weights of Futura. The illustration already leaned into a classic, vintage style, which I chose to echo with a aged-looking background and nameplate. The combination of Futura within the clean frames and the original MEXILOVE logo the top created a satisfying juxtaposition—balancing vintage and rough with something cleaner and more contemporary.

Years later, this style of organization is now resembled in the Berlin-wide re-design Berlin.de: https://www.berlin.de/rbmskzl/service/corporate-design/neue-marke-berlin/ by Jung von Matt.
